Home, Glen Taylor SchoolPrincipal’s Welcome

Welcome to Glen Taylor School!

My name is Chris Herlihy and I am lucky enough to be the principal of Glen Taylor School. I have been here since April 2015. I am born and bred in the Waikato. I attended Waikato University where I gained a Diploma of Teaching and a Bachelor of Education. I then moved to Auckland and was a Year 5/6 Teacher at Fruitvale School in West Auckland. While I was working there I was lucky enough to win a Fulbright Scholarship where I got to do my Masters in Economics and Entrepreneurship for Educators at the University of Delware in the USA. I then got the job as Deputy Principal at Kelston Primary School before winning the job here at GTS.

We Are Back To Level 2 – School Open For All – Thursday (tomorrow)

Wed Feb 17 06:07am

Well Done GTS Whanau. Today the Prime Minister moved Auckland down to Level 2 as of 11:59pm tonight – Wednesday 17 February,

This means that GTS is open and all learners are expected to attend unless sick. Please have a read through our Level 2 Health and Safety Procedures. There have been a couple of adjustments from last year so take the time to familiarise yourself with it.

School Lunches will be back to normal from tomorrow so no need to send your child to school with lunch.

We are due to start our GAAAP Swimming Sessions (Yr 3 – 6). It is part of the school curriculum so expect all learners to be in the water with the instructors developing their confidence in and around water.

Can all Chromebooks and Chargers be returned to school tomorrow. We would like to get a stocktake on everything. Due to the uncertain times of Covid we will be allowing those who have completed the Kawa of Care (majority of Year 5 – 8) to take their Chromebooks home again. We will be starting our in school Chromebook Cleaning every Friday this week. Please make sure your children are treating their devices with care and respect. The state of the majority of them at the ned of last year was truly appalling. Let’s all work together to ensure your child gets as long as possible out of their Chromebook, saving you money!!
(Year 3 and most Year 4’s will still be leaving their Chromebooks at school until they have completed the Kawa of Care.)
Thank you to everyone who was so understanding of our decision to take the drastic measure to leave Chromebooks at school. It was a difficult decision but one made with everyones best interests at the centre.

FREE SCHOOL LUNCHES FOR ALL AT GTS

Mon Feb 01 02:46am

School Lunch InfoIt is with great delight that we announce GTS joining the Healthy School Lunch Programme.

This means that every child in the school will receive a yummy healthy lunch every day of the school year.

All you need to do is provide your child with some healthy morning tea.

Please support us by not sending unhealthy food to school. We will be reminding kids during the first week of school the need to only bring healthy food. After that we will keep hold of any unhealthy food until the end of the school day.

We have Breakfast Club, Fruit and Milk in School as well as KidsCan snacks available to all kids. Trust me nobody will go hungry.

FAREWELL MR NIKS

Tue Dec 08 07:17pm

As we come to the end of the year we unfortunately must say our farewell to Mr Niks. Mr Niks who has been in Room 12 since midway through 2019 has been a real asset to GTS. All the way from Canada, Mr Niks has certainly had an interesting time in NZ. From the measles, Covid Tests and lockdowns, the trustworthy van that wasn’t so trustworthy, lack of decent snow not to mention multiple moves from flat to flat, he certainly has showed a lot of resilience in his time at GTS which he has passed onto his learners.
Mr Niks will be making his way down south to Gore to take up a teaching position (well once the van is fixed).
A HUGE thanks to Mr Niks for all that he has brought to GTS. You will be missed by the entire GTS Whanau and we wish you all the best as you head to the deep south.
Kia Kaha e hoa!
